How the split works
- Turns the song into a picture
- The track becomes a spectrogram: which frequencies sound at each moment. A singer leaves a distinctive pattern of harmonics that follows the melody.
- A trained network draws the line
- A separation network trained on a large catalogue of songs has learned which parts of that picture are the voice and which are the band.
- Two stems that add back up
- Every frequency at every moment is shared out between the stems, so the vocals and the instrumental sum back to your original track.
